ISLAMABAD (Sunday – 28th Nov, 2021): Planning Minister Asad Umar has said that the Green Line project has been reviewed in detail and now the commercial operation will be launched from December 25.
Planning Minister Asad Umar said in a tweet that he reviewed the Karachi Green Line project in detail yesterday. Inshallah, the project will be ready for trial operation in next 10 days. Prime Minister Imran Khan will come to Karachi to inaugurate the project.
The project will be ready for a trial operation within the next 10 days, according to Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhary, after which it will be formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan and then its commercial operations may begin.
I just finished a comprehensive evaluation of the Karachi Green Line project (Saturday). With the favor of God, this project will be ready for trial operation in the next 10 days, he stated on Twitter.
The city’s planned subway line was supposed to be finished in December 2017, but there were numerous delays. Since the scheme’s inception, the road on either side of the route has become a major annoyance for commuters and businesses.
On October 21, the city received the final two consignments for the Green Line project, bringing the total number of buses to 80. The Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in Manila was expected to be implemented after these buses arrived. It is scheduled to carry 300,000 passengers each day.
The first 40 buses had arrived in the city on September 19, which the planning minister termed a “ray of hope” and “milestone,” signaling the restart of modern public transportation service for Karachiites after a four-decade absence.
